George E. Hartman Jr.

George Hartman, FAIA, was a designer, teacher, and publisher. Hartman was principal emeritus of Hartman–Cox architects and co-publisher of Academy Press.

  • Fellow of the AIA and the American Academy in Rome
  • Recipient of the prestigious Centennial Award in 2005
  • Editor of Pencil Points Reader and co-edited Hartman–Cox: Selected and Currents Works.
  • Taught at Catholic University, North Carolina State University, and the University of Maryland, and has served on numerous juries and lectured extensively
  • served as president of the AIA Washington Chapter and was a member of the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts and the U.S. Department of State’s Architectural Advisory Board of the Foreign Buildings Office
  • Received his BA and MFA in architecture from Princeton University

George E. Hartman Jr. passed away on November 3, 2013.
