Maurice Cox

Maurice Cox, AIA, is the Director of City Planning in Detroit, after relocating from New Orleans to Detroit to build the city’s capacity.

  • Cox served as Mayor of Charlottesville from 2002-2004, served as Associate Dean for Community Engagement at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and served as an Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Virginia, School of Architecture from 1993-2012
  • Co-founded the architectural practice of RBGC Architecture, Research and Urbanism with partners Craig Barton, Giovanna Galfione and Marthe Rowen in 1996
  • Projects and teaching always promote civic activism and community service participation while achieving the highest quality of architectural design
  • Loeb Fellow at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design in 2004
