Maurice Lim Miller

Maurice Lim Miller is the founder and CEO of The Family Independence Initiative and recently retired as executive director of Asian Neighborhood Design (A.N.D.), a multi-service community development agency in San Francisco where he worked for 22 years.

  • Currently assisting research and consulting for community directed initiatives aimed at poverty alleviation in Oakland and San Jose, California
  • Leading The Family Independence Initiative seeking ways to strengthen these communities and provide seed capital and connections so that each community can forge its own pathway to self-sufficiency
  • Honored by President Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton through Commission on Race in 1998, as Local Hero of the Year by the Asian Pacific American Heritage Assn. in 2000, and by other national organizations
  • Received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1968, a Masters in Design from Berkeley in 1977, with a specialty in Asian American Studies, and a Certificate in Housing and Business Development from the Development Training Institute in 1985
